Primary focus on semiconductor equipment and research thrusts in ASU’s Advanced Materials, Processes and Energy Devices (AMPED) Science and Technology Center

ASU’s MacroTechnology Works offers capabilities that are an order of magnitude larger than those available at other universities. Core Research Facilities for Advanced Electronics and Photonics as well as Solar Fabrication provide comprehensive, industry-compatible resources to securely prototype, test and produce vital new technologies.

The world-class caliber of these facilities makes MacroTechnology Works central to the photovoltaics, batteries and power-electronics work of ASU’s new Advanced Materials, Processes and Energy Devices (AMPED) Science and Technology Center.

Alongside enabling key Science and Technology Center projects, MacroTechnology Works also facilitates ASU’s leading semiconductor research and workforce development efforts.

Advancing Arizona’s New Economy Initiative

The synergistic combination of these endeavors substantively advances Arizona’s New Economy Initiative (NEI) to stimulate regional growth of industry sectors, including high-tech manufacturing, communications, transportation, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, robotics and more.

The heart of the MacroTechnology Works ecosystem is industry engagement. Current site tenants range from two-person startup ventures to large businesses with more than $100B market capitalization.

Who is using MacroTechnology Works?

All of the companies at the site recognize the value of ASU’s Core Facilities and take full advantage of the equipment available for use. They also leverage ASU’s institutional expertise through collaborative research engagements, and they benefit from the scale of the university’s educational programs. More than 29,000 students enrolled in ASU’s Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering represent an unparalleled talent pipeline.

In fact, many of the startups operating at MacroTechnology Works emerged from ASU intellectual property and are led by ASU graduates and current faculty. Their success demonstrates the real-world impact of ASU’s technical entrepreneurship culture.

Leverage the power

Make on-site use of facilities

Visiting researchers, students and company staff are trained to operate Core Research Facility tools and can do so on an hourly basis.

Gain remote access to facilities

Businesses, national laboratories and universities contract ASU Core Research Facility staff to run processes that advance research and development.

Join our innovative ecosystem

Startup ventures and established companies lease laboratory and office space to collaborate with Arizona State University research faculty, staff and students.
